This architecture permits to design your solution and generate it on the technologies of your choice. That way, when technologies evolve, you are able to generate your solution on your new target platform. In this architecture, it is possible to generate application by aggregating solutions from low level frameworks (like web frameworks) to complete entreprise solution like, for example, Alfresco (Enterprise Content Management system). If tomorrow, another enterprise solution appears and fits better your needs, then you'll just have to generate your application thanks to the provided generators.
